survival food storage

Hurricane season is among us. are ya'll ready?
Hurricane season is approaching and every year my neighbors Gulf Coast residents prepare for the big (remember Rita?) run to the store and buy all and water supplies and other perishable products not weeks before it starts. Normally I do not prepare much, but my question is does anyone here have a survival plan hurricane? a special council that would like to offer, such as evacuation routes, supply storage. etc. I've lived in Houston and Louisiana all my life and survived a large number of storms, but with the economy being so unstable and with gas and food is quite expensive, some advice we can share with each other would be fine.
Being prepared is the best thing you can do. Take a tip of the campers. Get a large storage bag with a lockable lid. Fill it with needs canned food, a small propane stove, a sleeping bag, bottled water, toilet paper, some lanterns, a small radio and batteries. You can put the originals of all important papers in there as well. We lived in South Carolina for 15 years, remember what Hugo did to us. Running out at the last minutes is never a good idea. Those who always buy milk and perishables that require refigeration. a link to help Herre: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/prepare/supply_kit.shtml
